VILLAS of ITALY

tuscany | tuscan countryside | villa santo

High above the magical landscape of the Val d'Orcia, south of Siena, sits a charming collection of stone homes that are part of an ancient hilltop hamlet.

Villa Santo is one of the stone villas that has been transformed into a haven of repose for the mind and body. Located equidistant between Rome and Florence, each villa's individual beauty is a blend of the breathtaking Tuscan countryside with 21st-century style and amenities, reflecting the uncompromising passion of the owners.

The private residences are stone structures built on foundations that date back to the 11th Century. The well-appointed bedrooms have generously sized private, spa-like baths, wine cellars, living rooms with handcrafted bookshelves and state-of-the-art kitchens.

The amenities of each villa are unmatched. A private concierge will assist in customizing a full-service experience, including private shopping excursions, cooking classes, private meals prepared in your villa by the hamlet's executive chef, private tours of local villages and vineyards and ground transportation details.

Experience this inspirational concept in Tuscan living for yourself - this lost-in-time retreat dedicated to nourishing the body and mind.

[+] accommodations
This two-bedroom villa is perfect for one or two couples as each bedroom offers privacy with their locations on separate floors. The masterpiece of this villa is the 1000 bottle private wine cellar-your villa's most revered spot-filled with some of the region's finest wines from the Monteverdi private collection.

GROUND LEVEL:

Retreat to the living room with handcrafted bookshelves filled with classic literature. An ultra-modern kitchen with state-of-the-art appliances awaits a dinner to be prepared by the borgo chef. Unwind in the large and airy bedroom featuring a king-size bed as you surround yourself with the character and charm of this bedroom suite. Your own private luxury bathroom completes this relaxing retreat.

LOWER LEVEL:

The master suite downstairs is a true haven for relaxation where you can lounge in lavish hand-sewn leather recliners or unwind on a king-size bed of hand-dyed linens. A generously sized bathroom and wonderfully contemporary rain shower will also help to refresh your spirits from head to toe.

OUTDOORS:

Santo is in a uniquely private setting for sumptuous living. Part of a medieval masterpiece, the perfectly preserved village is perched on a rustic hillside, above the cypress-dotted fields of the Val d'Orcia. Once completely walled to defend against intruders, it is accessed by original gravel roads that wind through the picturesque countryside. An artful Sienese gate marks the front entry, where villagers still walk along ancient pathways to reach their homes today. Meander through these maze-like paths separating medieval stone dwellings and happen upon the historic Romanesque church of Sant' Andrea, whose piazza is a wonderful spot from which to reflect.

Gather with friends for meals in ageless gardens offering delightfully panoramic views of Monte Amiata. The beautiful lavender garden is an enticing spot to relax with a book or a glass of wine.

Just steps from the lavender garden you can explore one of the most interesting features in the hamlet, an on-going archaeological dig sponsored by the owner in collaboration with scholars at the University of Siena. This work-in-progress has unearthed an Etruscan figurine as well as the foundation of a castle which dates back to the 12th century.
