BORGO OUTDOORS
Il Villaggio is in a uniquely private setting for sumptuous living. Part of a medieval masterpiece, the perfectly preserved village is perched on a rustic hillside, above the cypress-dotted fields of the Val d'Orcia. Once completely walled to defend against intruders, it is accessed by original gravel roads that wind through the picturesque countryside. An artful Sienese gate marks the front entry, where villagers still walk along ancient pathways to reach their homes today. Meander through these maze-like paths separating medieval stone dwellings and happen upon the historic Romanesque church of Sant' Andrea, whose piazza is a wonderful spot from which to reflect.
Gather with friends for meals in ageless gardens offering delightfully panoramic views of Monte Amiata. The beautiful lavender garden is an enticing spot to relax with a book or a glass of wine.
Just steps from the lavender garden you can explore one of the most interesting features in the hamlet, an on-going archaeological dig sponsored by the owner in collaboration with scholars at the University of Siena. This work-in-progress has unearthed an Etruscan figurine as well as the foundation of a castle which dates back to the 12th century.
