We wanted to thank you and James for the great birthday celebration and wonderful bottle to celebrate with!! As always, everything was perfect!! The girls had a great time as did Tony and I...we cannot wait to go back again! Leonida did a wonderful job for us... she too is a fantastic cook. She is simply adorable and so kind. We absolutely love that home...I know there are other fabulous homes to explore, but we keep feeling a pull back to that home!! The property is as great as it has been in the past. The addition of the hot tub was very nice. Thanks again for everything!! You guys were more than helpful!!! Thank you!Karen and Tony M. Chicago, IL
I'm glad the survey came...it reminded me that I wanted to write you a note of thanks!
The villa was even better than we remembered and our memories were quite favorable!! There were some great improvements like the outdoor wood grill and the pergola by the pool. The showers are enclosed now too and the new couches were nice. The kitchen was perfect for preparing meals......everyone in our group is a cook, so it functioned very well for prep, cooking and clean up. Chrisina cooked two fabulous meals for us too. It was nice to see her again and she remembered our family from our previous stay which thrilled our daughters. As for the Mitchell family, they have traveled extensively. They have a handful of favorite places and the villa is now on that very short list. Now they fully understand why we love Palazzuolo so much!! We never doubted that they would love it the same way. We hope to return sooner than the time span between this and the last visit! We have a very nice group of couples that we are friends with and we thought it might be fun to one day rent Palazzuolo and Colle Aperto in tandem and have a great Tuscan retreat with a fun group of Chicago friends. Are all rentals on a weekly basis in the off season too? Never too soon to start thinking of future visits!!! Thank you again for the bubbly! With that view and the bubbles, what could have been better?!?!? We truly appreciate you helping to make our celebration of my 50th birthday as special as we hoped.Return clients: Karen and Tony M. This was our second trip to this property. The new kitchen and outdoor seating area were fantastic. The overhead fan added in the master bedroom was a lifesaver. Christina and her staff were phenomenal as always. Your website is one of the best I have seen.Geraldine F. San Rafael, CA
Lori and James,
Everything about the Villa Palazzuolo was wonderful. We met our group (total 9 of us) at the Chiusi train station and had a 3 car caravan to the Villa which took less than 1/2 an hour. When we got out of the car and saw that view from the Villa, everyone was speechless. The Val d' Orcia must be one of the most beautiful places I've been to in all my travels. As we entered the house and discovered every room, both the men and women were gushing with enthusiasm. The Villa is fairly large, but we tended to congregate in the dining area off the kitchen or outside in the patio area. We were not looking for a rustic villa, so this villa was perfect for our group of 6 women and 3 men. We loved the owner's decorating style. I have to mention Cristina. She is an incredible woman.
Can she cook! We had her cook for us on 4 separate occasions and each time was like a feast. Her pastas were excellent and her desserts were my absolute favorite. Even though she speaks very little English and we speak no Italian, we seemed to communicate fine. She took care of us -- she even killed a snake outside the back door one night that was in the path of one of my friends. We all wanted to bring Cristina home with us. The real lesson that we all learned was that renting a villa for the week ended up being very economical for us and we had a "home away from home" that we yearned to go back to every day after touring the countryside. The best time was sitting outside with all of our friends, looking over the valley below, drinking wine and exchanging stories of our daily outings. Yes, I absolutely hope to return to this area and quite possibly to this Villa again in the future.
This trip was better than I could have imagined. If anyone is contemplating whether or not to stay at a Villa, I would wholeheartedly tell them to do it. This was a once in a lifetime vacation for all of us and especially for me since we were celebrating my 50th birthday! You have one of the best websites that I have found on the web (and I looked at quite a few over the course of several months). The pictures really show what the Villa looked like and so I didn't feel there were any real surprises. I liked the fact that 1) you were here in the US and it made it easier to deal with you as opposed to dealing with someone in Italy, 2) You were always professional and, 3) You answered my emails immediately. Thank you for helping us arrange the best vacation ever. I look forward to using your services again should I decide to rent a villa.Arleen N. Redondo Beach, CA
Hi Lori and James, I wanted to let you know that we had a wonderful experience in Tuscany especially in our beautiful country home Palazzuolo. We loved everything about the place. Cristina is a true chef and culinary expert. We had her cook a few nights for us and it was all truly delicious and elegantly served. The rest of the staff was also so accommodating, friendly and most helpful. We all had the same feeling about Tuscany. Some of us for the first time and some for a second time. We did much traveling around to the lovely villages and enjoyed the scenery wine cheese and food. I do hope I will be doing business with you in the future as I would definitely return to Tuscany and the properties that you represent are perfect so far. Thank you again for all of your help!Joan J. Peekskil, NY
WOW! Wow!!!! Spectacular, incredible, Beautiful, and most of all memorable. The total vacation experience would have been very different in another setting. The property provided an incredible backdrop to a great vacation.Drew D. Boston MA
We greatly enjoyed our stay at Palazzuolo as did my other family members who were with us. The house was everything we expected and more!!! And Christina was fabulous! Thanks again for all your help and we would not hesitate to rent one of your properties again in the future.Anne D. Hingham, MA
Hi Lori, Sooo sad to leave Cristina & Palazzuolo but we're back now, still jet lagging! Again, had such a wonderful time...mentioned my gratitude to you and Via Travel Design in the living room book. Hope to hear from you soon.Lucinda A. Beverly Hills, CA
Christina was wonderful. Fireplace in kitchen was the highlight of the stay. Very homey and beautiful villa. We were pleased with our choice. Thank you for the wonderful service you provided!Shannon G. Dallas, TX
The house was great - everything we expected it to be. I do have two suggestions about this particular house. The last two hundred yards of the dirt road up to the house is pretty rough. Some of our guests had cars with low ground clearance which would hit bottom on some of the pot holes. Our car had no problem. You might want to advise future guests to rent cars with normal or high ground clearance for this particular house. You also might want to add that the Val d' Orcia, which is your view from the house, is now a United Nations World Heritage site. We thought that your website and your service was great and plan to use you again. Southern France maybe?David N. San Rafael, CA
This charming, completely restored stone farmhouse sits high on a hillside in the Val d'Orcia region of Tuscany.
This valley, where "The English Patient" and "Under the Tuscan Sun" were filmed, has been renowned since the end of the first millennium as being an important stage on the Via Francigena, the great medieval pilgrimage road from France to Rome. More than 20 castles and rest houses crowned the valley bordering the road. One of these houses, the stone farmhouse Palazzuolo, has become a villa of exceptional character, surrounded by oak woods, cypresses, and olive groves.
Please note: The location of this vacation home, as others in the area, requires driving on a "strada bianca" - a typical Tuscan white dirt road. When renting a vehicle for your holiday, we strongly suggest not renting any vehicle with a low-carriage.
On this floor is a living room with fireplace; two doors opening to lawn and stone paved terraces dominating the valley for unforgettable views at sunset. A door leads to a study/TV room that can become a comfortable single bedroom for a sudden guest. There is a full ensuite bathroom with bathtub and wall-mounted and hand-held shower. A small laundry room with washing machine and tumble dryer is available for guests. The spacious dining room, with traditional peasant's hearth, has a large table for up to 16 guests. The country-style kitchen is equipped with eight gas hobs, oven, two door refrigerator with ice maker and cold water dispenser, dishwasher and double sinks. From the kitchen two doors open to outdoor areas.
Stairs lead from the kitchen to the upper level, also able to be reached directly from parking area. Here is located a master bedroom with ensuite bathroom with separate shower and bathtub.
The ground floor of the tower has one twin bedroom and closet; a small ensuite bathroom has bathtub with wall-mounted shower. An external stone staircase leads to the tower's top floor, where guests will find a small terrace off of a double bedroom with ensuite bathroom with walk-in shower.
Here is a twin bedroom (can be made into king) bedroom with full bathroom. One double bedroom (queen) has iron railings before double doors with a charming vista and private full bathroom with bathtub with hand-held shower, reached through a vestibule. The window over the bathtub provides for some time to daydream while bathing.
Stone-paved and straw sheltered al fresco dining area have two tables seating up to 24 guests. From here enjoy the villa vegetable garden and stunning views over the Val d'Orcia. The solar panel heated swimming pool (13x4 meters) is just on the side of a terrace overlooking the valley. Stone pavement lines the pool, and there is a straw changing room.
